It is the book. It is one. It is one of the best book on shell scripting ever saw. It requires some UNIX background and if you need one, take “UNIX Essentials” DVD. It is a complete course for a beginner but for a scripting skills it is second to none book.

This book is OK in the sense that it teaches scripting with examples, but it lacks in completeness. It is good for learning (tutorial type), but it is not good for a reference book. Shop around if you already know scripting but want to master it.
